Matthew is the Principal of the firm. He is a Chartered Accountant and has been in public practice for over 14 years.
Matthew has developed a recognized expertise in accounting and taxation matters and has also been recognised as an authority in the areas of asset protection/succession and business structuring. He has recently been engaged to prepare and present papers on taxation, asset protection and business management for Medical Specialists through the Television Education Network.
With an open and frank style, Matthew will challenge clients regarding what and why they are doing things the way they are doing them. He will always seek to assist clients and staff to develop and improve.
As a result of the Firm's planning processes, Matthew is taking on more an advisory role with clients - more focussed on longer term strategies and planning rather than the day to day compliance matters. He is also responsible for ensuring client service levels are developed and the practice is highly targeted at its identified preferred client base.

Peter Jacks
Associate
B.Comm., C.A.
Specialisations: Accounting, Taxation, Indirect Taxes & State Taxes, Business Development.
Peter commenced with us in November 2004. He is a Chartered Accountant and has previously worked with Pannell Kerr Forster, Horwath and Boyd Partners in Melbourne.
Peter has worked in a number of complex areas of accounting and taxation and, whilst working in Melbourne, has been involved in a number of larger consulting projects. His particular areas of expertise include Fringe Benefits Tax, Capital Gains Tax and GST. He also has an interest in the property development industry.
Peter has enjoyed a couple of years travelling in the UK and through Europe and has decided that Ballarat offers him and his wife and family the lifestyle they are seeking.
Peter brings extensive accounting and taxation experience to our business and will be able to apply the set of skills he developed in Melbourne (and whilst working in the UK) to our rapidly expanding client base.
Peter is a Richmond Supporter.

Brooke Ashby
Associate

Specialisations: Accounting, Taxation, Superannuation
Brooke is an Associate of the Firm. She is a Chartered Accountant and has over seven years experience in the accounting profession. Prior to working with matthew tol + associates, Brooke was working with RSM Bird Cameron, Chartered Accountants in Ballarat.
Brooke is currently working a day and a half a week as she has a one year old daughter Olivia and is on maternity leave. Brooke is a manager within the firm with Peter and Daina and is responsible for compliance matters for a number of clients. Brooke also works closely with Matthew and Daina on superannuation issues within the Firm.
With a great sense of humour and very outgoing personality, Brooke has terrific relationships with her clients.

Daina MacLeod
Associate & IT Guru
B.Comm.(Acc), B.Comp, CNE, C.A.
Specialisations: Accounting, Taxation, I.T., Medical Specialists, Primary Producers
Daina is an Associate of the firm. She is a Chartered Accountant with over six years experience in accounting and a year's experience in computing.
Daina completed her double degree at the University of Ballarat in June 2000. Prior to working with matthew tol + associates she was working with Barker East & Jennings, Chartered Accountants in Ballarat and also worked in Scotland for a year. During her stay she enjoyed a rewarding relationship with the Royal Bank of Scotland where she worked as a Computer/Network Engineer.
Daina joined matthew tol + associates soon after her return to Australia in March 2002. Daina is currently a manager within the firm and is the main point of contact for many clients.
Daina is something of a "medical specialist" herself - she works with a large number of our medical clients and has developed quite some expertise with this significant area of our business.
Daina has also forgotten more than most if us will ever know about computers, networks and other technical stuff. An avid sportsperson, Daina is always busy on something. She's also one of the most unflappable people you will come across.

Lauren Carey Associate B.Comm.(Acc)(Bus.Law), C.A. Specialisations: International and expatriate taxation
Lauren commenced with us in December 2007. She is a fully qualified Chartered Accountant and has previously worked as a ManagerwithPricewaterhouseCoopers in Melbourne.
In her previous role Lauren has worked in a number of complex areas of accounting and taxation. Her particular areas of expertise include international assignment tax planning, international assignment management, remuneration/fringe benefits planning and salary packaging, and Australian and US tax compliance for expatriate and executive employees.
Lauren has also competed at Australian national and state level rowing and has coached many High school rowing crews.

Tim McFarlane General Manager B.Comm.(Economics)(Marketing)(Bus.Law), Diploma of Financial Planning.
Tim commenced with us in August 2008. He has a background in banking, previously working with HSBC Bank Ltd (Australia) in Melbourne as a senior relationship manager. Tim is originally from Ballarat and has chosen to move home to lead a better lifestyle.
Tims role within the business is to take a lot of the day to day functionality of the firm away from Matthew and the senior staff. He is implementing new systems, overseeing management of staff, firm marketing and working on customer relationships.
Tim is a great additional to the team.

Helen Kelly
Practice Manager
Helen is the primary support person in the firm who carries out a broad range of tasks. She supports the professional staff in dealing with the Tax Office, data processing and is developing her skills in the bookkeeping area. She has worked with Matthew for the past nine years and has taken a more active role in the practice management aspects of the firm.
Taking on a senior admin role has enabled Helen to expand her expertise and develop her already considerable skills. She's great fun and manages to get everything done on time. Kels is a real asset to our team.

Felicity Cheeseman
Accountant
Flick joined matthew tol + associates in August 2003 from RSM Bird Cameron, Chartered Accountants in Ballarat. She worked with them for three years. With Flick's seven years of Accounting experience she has moved into more of a managerial role and is one of the main contacts for many of our clients for Accounting and taxation purposes.
Flick has nearly completed her Commerce Degree which she has been completing via correspondence with Deakin University and will start her Chartered Accountant certification soon after.
A highly skilled netballer and terrific team member, Flick is a valuable part of our business.

Lauren Trevenen
Accountant B.Comm.(Acc)
Lauren joined us in December 2005, and finished her Accounting degree in December 2007 at the University of Ballarat.
Lauren is now full time with MT+A and is a very competent and knowledgable member of the compliance team, she will begin her Chartered Accountant qualification with Rachel in September 2008.
Lauren enjoys playing tennis with the matthew tol + associates tennis team which is part of the corporate twilight competition at Creswick and also loves shopping.

Rachel Warton
Accountant B.Comm. (Acc)
Rachel joined us from a Shepparton Accounting firm in July 2006 and finished her Accounting degree by correspondence in December 2007.
Rachel has a background in audit, but has moved into the accounting and tax compliance areas with ease. Rachel will begin her Chartered Accounting qualification in September 2008.
Rachel is also a competitive basketball player and previously won a scholarship to the US for nine months. Rach is currently playing with the Lady Miners Basketball Club.

Prue Smith Accountant B.Comm. (Acc)
Prue joined us in September 2007 from an Accounting firm in Swan Hill - Dodgshun Medlin Chartered Accountants.
Prue completed her Bachelor of Accounting via correspondece with the University of South Australia in February 2008. She has started her Chartered Accounting qualification and is currently completing her first module.
Prue has a lot of experience with Superannuation Funds and enjoys website development, music and meeting new people. Prue is a great addition to the team.

Katie Maher Bookkeeper / Trainee Accountant B. Comm. (Economics)
Katie joined us in May 2007. She has been running her own bookkeeping business for several years and has decided she would like to finish her Accounting major and become a qualified Accountant.
Katie is currently working with us for two and a half days a week while also working for bookkeeping clients and looking after her three children. She is currently completing a graduate certificate of Chartered Accounting Foundations with Deakin University, this will enable her to begin her Chartered Accounting qualification.
Katie once scored a goal in a game of Soccer!
Oh, and she talks, and talks, and talks and talks.....

Danielle Miezis
Technical Support
Danielle joined us in November 2006. Danielle has an Administration background and has worked for many years with the NSW Foresty Department before moving Ballarat.
Dani is our technical support guru - working with the technical people in their dealings with clients, the ATO, ASIC, Workcover Insurers etc. She is fully using her well developed administrative skills in this role and is a regular point of contact for clients seeking information on "non technical" issues regarding their businesses.
Dani is currently on maternity leave after the birth of Emmersyn.

Jaclyn Clark Receptionist / Technical Support
Jackie has a background in Customer Service and joined the team in June 2007. Jackie will be taking over the Technical Support role within the firm whilst Danielle is on maternity leave.
Jackie has been working at KFC for the past five years while attending High School and this is her first administration role.
Jac is great team member and an active sports-person.

Bronwyn Calistro Receptionist
Bronwyn has a background in Customer Service and has only just joined the team. She has a terrifically bright personality and has settled in well with the rest of the team. We've also had some great feedback from clients as to the professional manner in which she greets and assists them.
Bronwyn has joined us from Elysium Day Spa and is very excited to join the team. Bron will be the first point of call for all clients. She enjoys spending time with her son and family, meeting people, cooking and reading.
